Please check back soon and often

This idea of a blog to talk about and help with mini pie makers came to me just a few days ago and I have very little to almost no pictures to share but that will change quickly. Yes, I could have waited until more were done to start this, but it came to me that many, many pie makers were given for Christmas in this vast world of ours a few days ago and that people might search once or twice for tips and recipes all while I am getting my stuff together.

So I needed to get it started and to let you know to come back for the good stuff. Though I have had mine for only a month. There have been many many pies (of all kinds, including meat and breakfast pies) made. I would like this to be a place to share what I have learned and learn from each other.

Without further ado (and the only picture I have) is my first batch. With how to avoid this as your top crust.

MANY things happened all at once to produce this, though any one of them alone would have done the same thing.

First was the disc sizes (have them down now and will share with the next entry, not making you wait but need to measure my cutters) the dough over lapped in places keeping the lid from coming all the way down. There was too much wasted dough thrown away (kinda munched on most of it while waiting for the pies to cool)

Second the rear (or nearest to the hinges) pie was filled maybe just a little too much and the other not so much (they are laid out here just as they were in the pie maker) That is very important to put in enough filling to keep that top dough against the lid

Third the size of the filling, the cherries were whole (from a can) so some were near the top and others not so much. I have done around twenty or more Cherry pies since and this hasn't affected the top crust as bad but still a little unevenness. So I am going to experiment with something that I think will work better and will give the pies a huge flavor boost.

There is another idea to get your top crust done. I haven't tried it yet, and will let you know how it turns out when I do.

I wanted this to be the first topic because well that was the first result I got and also a comment on facebook from a friend of a friend. She said after the posting of this pic that the hosts on HSN had gotten the same results so wanted to know if it would turn out like that every time because her dad had just gotten one. The answer is no, it still tastes good but with that kind of top dough you are missing out on a lot.

If you aren't get excited about your pie maker, they aren't just for desert, I have taken them for lunches filled with left overs and things made just for them. They freeze well and are just the thing for "no time left to make lunch to take to work" mornings.

See you soon
